Dear Paris, Here’s An Idea….

March 1st, 2008 by RIVES2292

For the past few weeks, I’ve been astonished to find there’s been no front page news on the life and times of Hilton heiress, Paris. I mean, with America at war, the healthcare system in disarray, and a presidential election creeping up, what else could possibly be more worthy of breaking news than Paris’s recovery from her time in the slammer. We’re all praying for you dear Paris; get well soon.

I’m sure I’m not the only one surprised by this; half of America probably expects Paris to randomly appear on every news station, perhaps speaking at the next State of the Union Address, where - when asked about her feelings on Iraq - she replies, “I’d love to go there; I’ve never been to Africa” and then concludes her speech with her signature catch phrase, “That’s hot.” Her dad beams with pride, her mom applauds enthusiastically, her dog Tinkerbell piddles from excitement.

Right….and the world goes further to hell in a hand basket….a designer hand basket, mind you.

Sarcasm aside, I, like so many other people, simply don’t get why Paris Hilton is such a big deal. So, she’s a heiress to the Hilton hotel chain. So what? I’m set to inherit my dad’s one-man janitorial company and you don’t see me getting attention (and he has a really expensive mop, people!). So she’s blond, tall and thin. I can dye my hair, wear heels, and throw up after I eat. If that doesn’t get me Paris-like attention, I guess I could just stop wearing underwear. I will miss you fruit-of-the-loom.

Truth be told, the whole Paris fascination is a bit of an enigma: she’s not a big deal, she just makes herself one and that, in turn, makes everyone bite…even if they don’t like the taste. Look at this article, I’m doing it too.

The Guiness Book of World Records hit the nail on the head in their 2007 edition when Paris received the record for “Most Overrated Person.” Still, it’s attention, albeit negative attention, and that’s probably enough for Paris to deem it “hot.”

I guess the whole Paris thing just makes me mad. Here is a person who doesn’t need to worry about a job or paying rent or whether or not she can afford her healthcare premiums. She’s been born with a silver spoon in hand and yet can’t even seem to dish out anything good.

Is she helping make the world a better place? Does she take her elevated status in society and use it to help others by dedicating her life to a worthy cause? Other than the few license plates she may have pounded out in prison, has she really contributed anything tangible to society? Seems to me the only things she adds to our culture are scandals. I don’t know about you, but I’m just about all scandaled out. They’re so “Amy Fisher.”

So, dear Paris, here’s an idea…instead of parading around in shirts with that oh so clever (and grammatically incorrect) catch phrase of “Thats Hot. Your Not,” go give back to the world. In lieu of hopping from party to party (all while trying to avoid those “pesky” laws) go and do something that helps others. Take your money, take your fame, and take your undeserved power and volunteer at a Children’s Hospital, fight for animals, donate money to help the African AIDS crisis, head a fundraiser that helps cancer research. Don’t do this for five minutes once a month; include them in your life’s dedications.

When you start to do this, your biggest dream will come true: you’ll find that you really are a big deal after all.

The Awesome 80’s

March 1st, 2008 by RIVES2292

It was the decade of decadence. It was about glitz and glamour as well as baubles, bangles, and beads.

Everyone loved Luke and Laura in the afternoon. Lady Diane became the People’s Princess when she married Prince Charles. Nighttime soaps like Dallas and Dynasty ruled the airwaves. President Ronald Reagan ruled the United States. Tom Cruise felt the need for speed. Michael Milliken was the Junk Bond King. Gordon Gekko taught Wall Street whiz kids that greed was good. Material Girl Madonna made her musical debut.

What decade was it?

We can only be talking about that terrific time period - the excellent eighties.

Here are twenty-one ways for you to verify that you belong to (or belong in) the 1980’s.

1. Breakdancing on the sidewalk looked like fun. Now it just looks like you might break something.

2. You can still recite dialogue from any movie starring Molly Ringwald.

3. “Cell phones” meant the telephone people used when they got their “one phone call” in jail.

4. You had at least one of the following: a Cabbage Patch Kid, He-Man action figures, a Rubik’s Cube, or something with a Pac-Man logo on it.

5. You remember a lot of headlines about the Human Genome Project, which was a complete mapping of human DNA. You also remember how this was supposed to lead to the eradication of disease.

6. You remember the day that thousands of radio stations across the world played “We Are The World” at the exact same time. (Now, you’re singing it!)

7. Your first album was a vinyl 33 and you laughed at your parents because they wanted to play 45’s and 8-track tapes.

8. You know who Oliver North is and why he was in the news.

9. Someone on your street or neighborhood sent his or her life savings to a later discredited televangelist.

10. You hung out with your friends at the mall, especially in the video arcade where you exchanged those hard-earned quarters for tokens.

11. You know that “glasnost” means openness or transparency and “perestroika” means economic restructuring.

12. You and your friends made fun of the “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” lady. (The fictional woman was named Mrs. Fletcher and the product was the LifeCall emergency service.)

13. You inserted “like” liberally and unnecessarily throughout your sentences. Like so, “Like, that was, like, the hardest test we ever had. So after class, I was all like asking the teacher and she was like it wouldn’t have been hard if you had studied. Then I was like is that like wicked rude or what?”

14. You know there was only one way Dorothy on the Golden Girls could make Sophia behave. She simply said, “Shady Pines, Ma, Shady Pines.”

15. You’ve actually tasted New Coke. Extra points if you wrote to Coca-Cola and insisted they bring back the original formula.

16. You remember when there was no such thing as CNN, E!, or MTV.

17. Your parents were afraid you’d cut yourself putting on a snap bracelet.

18. You were inspired by Sandra Day O’Connor, the first female Supreme Court Judge, Sally Ride, the first female astronaut and Geraldine Ferraro, the first (and as of this writing only) female Vice Presidential candidate.

19. Renting horror movie sequels about Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, and Michael Myers took up a lot of your time.

20. You loved the opposite sketches and green slime on You Can’t Do That On Television.

21. You played Atari, Intellivision, Sega, Nintendo, and Coleco until your hands went numb.

Not nearly enough totally tubular nostalgia for you, for sure? Need more wicked rad 80’s memories? See the complete list at http://www.comprehensiveadvice.com/80s.html

Common Press Release Mistakes: Include Your Contact Information

March 1st, 2008 by RIVES2292

Contact information is by far the most important part of your press release and you need to make sure that you provide enough information so that a reader of the press release will be able to reach you. There are some news publications that will take your press release and write a news story without contacting you; however, most news sources who want to base a story off of your press releases will attempt to contact you before they write an article to get more information and their own quotes. If their request is not met in an appropriate time frame, they will go with another company. As a result, it is very important that you include a phone number and / or e-mail address that you check frequently so that writers and journalists will be able to contact you and get the information they need quickly.

I know that some will not want to give their personal information as any one will have access to your e-mail address or telephone number and as a result, I suggest that you create a new e-mail account for press releases where journalists can contact you. pr@domain.com is a very common e-mail address for the public relations department of a company or web site. Many companies who are large enough to have their own public relations expert or press release staff use the business e-mail address of their PR personnel to handle all requests for more information.

I know that when many people register at a new web site, they often give fake or incorrect information but a press release distribution web site is the last place you want to do this. If these distribution services realize that the information you gave does not match up, they may not even send out your press release and terminate your account.

Bottom Line: Most journalists and writers who want to write a press release about you or your company will request and require further information before publishing your release so it is vital that you provide correct information in the “Contact Us” section of the press release. If a journalist can not contact you within a reasonable time frame of sending a press request, your news will not be covered and the purpose of the press release will be defeated. Simply put, make sure you can easily be contacted by those who are interested in writing a story based off your press release.

Smart Rookie Poker Player

March 1st, 2008 by RIVES2292

Trying to have some luck on a casino table is not just mere sitting on comfortable chair watching the cards to be laid down. There are rules to be followed and strategies for a sure win. A veteran poker player knew all about these. And they maximize their strategies to take advantage of the rookie players.

The veterans or masters of that field could easily spot a new comer in that particular field. In a casino table, a poker newbie is not exempted. A veteran poker player could easily determine a poker newbie. Watch out, they will dig every single penny in your pocket.

There are techniques for us to disguise and go along with these master-poker players undetermined.

Be observant

An example mistake a rookie commits is the string betting - a player call a bet and then make a raise. Then followed by familiar action indicating that you are a rookie player. These actions will then use by the matured poker player to take advantage of you during the game. Within the thoughts of this seasoned poker player, he/she is laughing at you and the same time, use some strategies unfamiliar to you through out the game.

The traditional pattern in calling a bet - announce that you are going to raise first before pushing your bet, anticipating the possible raise your opponent might call. Chain reactions will occur. Chances are, you will not be treated as rookie poker player.

Control Your Emotions

A seasoned poker player will determine if your card standing is good or not. By way of body language, through emotions and facial expressions you are showing, a seasoned poker player will know if you will raise a bet or not. This is a disadvantage on your part and an advantage on your opponent.

Incidentally, a rookie poker player will manifest a familiar facial expression on the first time he looks on his cards. The expression that will manifest on your face will show, telling to your opponent if you have good or not good enough cards to bet on.

Furthermore, the first time you look at your cards and you become happy, it shows that you have nice cards to compete within that round, but if you frown and displeased, it shows that you don’t have good cards to play. In addition, you are announcing the status of your cards.

Every veteran on the table can pick a hint on your actions. These actions will be used against you. Even the smallest action of the hand will manifest during the game expressing something, giving additional hints about your cards whether they are competitive or not.

These seasoned poker players knew everything within or around the table. A manifestation of a simple hint of advantage will be of great deal to them. In fact, they are patient in waiting for these hints. Furthermore, they knew every player they had competed before and also remember some anecdotes that had been shown during the game.

Unless you go to casinos just to divert your attention from stressful weekdays, and have some fun and you have lots money to bet on. But every poker player wants to win the game so as persons going to casino, to have some luck.

Every person who succeeded in his or her chosen endeavor had worked hard for it. They exerted extraordinary effort and sacrifices. In the poker game, the word lucky is always mentioned because the luck depends on the cards you receive, yet there are strategies for us to win the game.

You, as poker rookie should remember the ROI (return of investment) that being new in the game, you will loose on the first, second or even on the following game. The same scenario, its just like you are investing on it. On the following games, you will surely win because you’ve learned already the proper protocol of the game.

Although these things don’t assure the possibility that you will loss or win the game, the best thing to do in a first-time situation is to take precaution. Every opponent is looking a point for him to take advantage of the other. Be smart and be the first to find that hole.

7 Steps You Should Take To Be Successful At Sports Betting

February 29th, 2008 by RIVES2292

Have you ever wondered how sports betting “smart money” became the smart money? Do you wonder what the smart money does differently than the amateurs? The biggest difference between professional gamblers and the amateurs is that the pros always take the following 7 steps. If you do these things, you’ll be well on your way to making money like the pros.

1. Do Your Homework

If you want to be successful, you have to do your homework on each game. Don’t try guessing or playing hunches. You’ll lose in the long run.

2. Stick to What You Know

Only bet on teams you know. Try starting off with just betting on your hometown teams if you’re having trouble making money.

3. Get Expert Advice

There are countless experts who will do your homework for you. Even if you don’t agree with their picks, you can use their research and make up your own mind about a game.

4. Don’t Fall for Sucker Bets

If something feels like a sucker bet, it usually is. You need to learn to stay away from these types of bets. An example of a sucker bet? A home dog getting 3 1/2. The odds makers will put a line up like this just to make sure people take the points.

5. Allocate Your Money Properly

In order to make money long-term you need to spread your bets around instead of risking a high percentage on each bet. It’s better to bet $50 on 10 games than to bet $250 on two games. Don’t be greedy.

6. Keep Good Records

There’s nothing worse than a gambler who kids himself into thinking he really didn’t lose that much. Losing gamblers are known for kidding themselves by saying they “broke even” when in reality they lost money. Keep accurate records.

7. Remember, It’s Just a Game

Even professional gamblers keep their wins and losses in perspective. If you don’t control your emotions and stay on an even keel, you will make stupid bets trying to make up your previous losses. Pros stay calm emotionally. Amateurs blow up, throw things, and swear at their television. Decide which you are going to be!

So there you have it, the 7 steps you must do to make money betting on sports. How many of these things do you do now? Just like the teams you’re betting on, the gambler that masters the fundamentals will win more often than not.

Freelancing as A Career Option

February 29th, 2008 by RIVES2292

Home bound workers can either consider telecommuting or freelancing. While telecommuting may keep you out of your home for some hours a week, online freelancing is a good way to make money if you are forced to stay at home. For example, homemakers, part-time students, retired folk, or others who wish to supplement their income from jobs or businesses can all consider freelancing.

Freelance Skill Sets

You can start earning as a freelancer as long as you have skills that someone is willing to pay for. For example, writers, web designers, photographers, and programmers can earn a substantial income by creating articles, websites, portfolios and software from home. The Internet is a hot and viable source of income for freelancers from around the world. Your target customers can be webmasters, online business owners, blog owners etc. For example, blogs and wikis are hot sources of income for freelance writers nowadays, and there’s no reason why you can’t tap into this market if you possess good writing skills.

Freelance Income

On the flip, your income may fluctuate from one month to another. As with all businesses, freelancing does not guarantee a stable paycheck at the end of the month. So keep a small kitty reserve for dry days or have another source of income for which you can work part-time. Be prepared to accept boring, low-level work initially just to keep the cash flow strong. Once you get a good reputation for providing original, high-quality work at reasonable price, then clients will flock to you.

Freelance Advantages

Probably the best thing about freelancing is that you get to work at your pace, in your own hours, from home, and be your own boss. That means, your shop is open 24×7. And as long as you provide good quality work and meet deadlines, your clients will remain happy with you.

In order to be visible, you also need to be seen and heard in the right places, like forums, blogs, online groups, etc. Spend time everyday to visit such sites because they are invaluable repository of freelance gigs and email addresses of prospects. Alternatively you can sign up with freelance sites like Elance.com, GetAFreelancer.com and Scriptlance.com where you can start bidding on projects and snag a few as early as today!

To conclude, a freelance business is one of the best ways to earn money from home and to work for your own self. If you’ve got a fair amount of time on your hands, maybe you too should consider freelancing as your full-time career alternative or supplementary income source.

(Hint: While you can find plenty of lucrative freelance assignments on Elance, the other sites mentioned above generally tend to feature lesser-paid projects. However, if you’re just starting out as a freelancer, the competition on Elance can prove to be really tough. So you might want to first try GAF and Scriptlance to build up your portfolio, and then go for Elance.)

World Chess Championship Literally Goes Down The Toilet

February 29th, 2008 by RIVES2292

Sometimes the cartoon world, at least as reflected in the colorful pictures and captions of mass media, gets so bonkers that a real-world headline would be right at home in a humor magazine. Take the ludicrous bauble that prompted this article. It appeared in no less a distinguished place than the front page of The New York Times on the Web: “Bathroom Dispute Halts Chess Championship.”

We could have gone with that. No doubt about it.

But we prefer to see the everyday zaniness through our own eyes, so we did a bit of a redo.

If case you missed the debacle, the world chess championship was halted when a player, Russia’s Vladimir Kramnik, was locked out of his private bathroom because of inferences that he was going there too often and cheating while there. Expectedly enough, the bathrooms were part of the private areas of both players that were not under video surveillance.

In a rage over what he perceived as an insult to his personal dignity, Kramnik forfeited the fifth game of the match.

The day before, his opponent’s team had filed a written protest to the World Chess Federation on behalf of Bulgaria’s Veselin Topalov about Kramnik’s frequent bathroom breaks.

The Federation responded by locking the private bathrooms of both players and informing them they should use the same bathroom for the remainder of the match.

Going on strike at the start of the next game, Mr. Kramnik left for his private area and took a seat outside of his privy, demanding it be unlocked. When the organizers refused, he did not resume his participation, and the game was forfeited to Topalov. He was ahead in the match 3-1, with 6.5 points needed to win.

Demanding that his bathroom be reopened, Kramnik said, “My dignity does not allow me to stand this situation.”

Mr. Kramnik’s manager fired off a letter demanding that the committee be replaced and the decision to lock the players out of their private bathrooms be reversed. He declared that his client’s frequent trips to the bathroom were due to the fact that he drinks a lot of water during the games and likes to pace. Since the private rest area is too small for his perambulations, he also “uses the space of the bathroom as well.”

The letter said that Mr. Kramnik would not continue unless the federation was “ready to respect Mr. Kramnik’s rights, in this case, to use the toilet of his own restroom whenever he wishes to do so.”

Meanwhile, Topalov’s manager shot off his own missive, maintaining that the players should be accompanied to the bathroom by a match referee, since the new ruling would permit Kramnik “to visit the new bathroom an unlimited number of times without being subject to further control.” He added that if the match goes on, his client “would refrain from shaking hands with Mr. Kramnik before the games and would not take part in joint press-conferences with him.”

Play, we assume, eventually resumed. But, as far as the prestige of the match goes, the handle had already been pressed.

Tom Attea, humorist and creator of http://NewsLaugh.com, has had six shows produced Off-Broadway. Critics have called his writing for the theater “delightfully funny,” “witty,” with “great humor” and “good, genuine laughs.”

Just A Few Golf Rules & Regulations

February 29th, 2008 by RIVES2292

Many golf spectators often wonder how such a laid back sport can have rules and regulations with the exception of remaining quite throughout the course of the game. Rules and Regulations are vital part of every sport. Golf sport also has certain rules and regulations that are must to be followed by the players.

Golf being a unique sport, the rules of Golf are internationally standardized and governed by two associations known as the Royal and Ancient Golf club of St Andrews and United States Golf Association. Jurisdiction of the governed rules is limited to United States and Mexico.

It is very easy to cheat in any kind of sport. The prime rule that is followed in this Sport is of fairness. Players have to be fair in playing this game.

Since it’s a royal game, it is very important to understand to play the ball from the position where it has come to rest after a stroke.

No assistance has to be provided to the player under any circumstances.

Unless the rule defines, the condition of the ground or other parts of the course cannot be altered for the advantage of the player.

Replacing a ball by another player is only allowed if a hole is destroyed (Rule 5-3), (Rule 27-1) lost, or unplayable (Rule 28). If the rules permit than situation is otherwise.

However the player may substitute balls between the play of two holes.

Following these basic rules is mandatory, because of the revised and updated version of rules every year by R&A and USGA.

Strict regulations are also set for the amateur status of Golfers; the site that will help in this is http://www.usga.org/playing/amateur_status/amateur_status.html.

Receiving payment or compensation for giving instruction or playing Golf for money is not considered as amateur and they wont be able to participate in competitions, which are strictly for amateurs.

Safety, fairness, easiness and pace of play are some of the etiquettes that are must to be followed by the Golf players. Etiquettes are an effort to improve every player’s experience.

Golf sport is not discouraging its players, but it tends to encourage its players by keeping up the sporty spirit of wining in faith.

Another rule in the game of golf is to look the par. It is poor etiquette to wear sneakers and jeans on the golf course.

No Boss, No 60 Minute Commute, No Stale Sandwiches At Lunch Time, What More Could A Girl Want

February 29th, 2008 by RIVES2292

The reason I wrote this article is to share with you my complete gratitude to my boss - ME.

The decision to become an affiliate of any residual income opportunity is entirely up to you. Never forget that!Your search should be based on your own personality traits and desires, not necessarily on the suggestions and sales pitches of others. Think in terms of what you would like to do. The “how am I going to do it” will come naturally if you write down your goals and aspirations. One of the key benefits of choosing your own residual income opportunity is that you get to do it your way for a change. You are your own boss!

However, don’t you think that learning from the experts is a good idea? And by that I don’t mean buying there eBook! I mean really learning. Like training, learning and succeeding?

Are you doomed to a boring nine to five job that pays you just enough to survive? Are you stuck living in some ugly subdivision, just so you can go through commuter hell every day? Are dream vacations to exotic lands forever destined to be for other people? Is freedom just an elusive dream?

In this day and age of opportunity, it doesn’t have to be! Now — more than ever — you can make money with your own home-based business. Now, the opportunity to break free of a boring, mind-numbing job and set up your own money-making business is finally within everybody’s reach.

I started my own home based business about 3 years a go now and I am doing exeptionally well. There would never have been this sort of “pay rise” with an ordinary job, a pay check to pay check job.

There are millions of opportunities out there. You just have to find the right one. The one that actually makes sense. The one that is free to join isn’t necessarily the best but it should be!

I have been looking around recently at all the garbage that is on the Internet now adays with promises of get rich overnight! Live a life of luxury TOMORROW etc etc and they just aren’t worth dealing with. The real ones are the ones that were started by people like you and me. The people that didn’t know anything about business until they started learning and learning and learning.

There is one that stands out for me and you can find out more about that in my byline. The whole concept is different to the others. It doesn’t promise you riches overnight. However it does guarantee success. When I started with online business I had no idea what I was doing. I spent three weeks learning before I had even a clue about what to do! But then I found this opportunity and I’ve never looked back.

One thing that annoys me about most of these opportunities is that they promise you things they can’t deliver. They promises you unrealistic things. They throw you in at the deep end, but with all the hype you can’t really see whats real and what isn’t.

As I said its your choice to whether or not you join an opportunity but I believe and am living proof that anyone and I mean ANYONE can make a really decent living out there in the WWW!

Eleanor Ruse has been in Internet Marketing for several months and runs successful business.
